When it all began, this call from nature to man
Some stood, some hid, some adamantly ran
To serve with purpose, as only they can.
When the roads went cold, and the days stretched long
Some stayed, some frayed, some drove headstrong
Into the winds, taking others along.
When the skies turned dark, and the earth was layered
Some shivered, some wavered, some steadfastly cared
Feeling others agony, persevering, prepared.
When the clouds parted, and the wind sang a gentler refrain
Some cried, some tried, some lived again
And some carried on, pausing would be in vain.
As I look back now, tying to make sense
Of what we did together, of the pandemic's true essence
I feel blessed having served, having made a difference.
